- Edited 5 months ago'masterpiece', 'essential' record, etc. pay close attention to the sonics: uneasy frequencies, actual instruments run through weird filters, distorted micro samples and subtle glitch stylings, all there just to make deceptively simple compositions sound bigger than what they are. like, theres a surprising lot happening in the background of all of these tunes. and it works as long as you go past the pads and the vocals. still, theres the obligatory surprise slip onto candyland before some tracks end ('Ready', 'Your Life', 'Im Falling') thats just sweet enough to make the whole thing simply cozy to listen to. but production wise this album is just really weird imo, considering both the pop-house style and the lyrical themes it goes for. not like thats a bad thing, anyways.
- Edited 20 years agoIncredible LP from Charles Webster. The album expresses a very melancholic mood, and one quick glance over the titles and lyrics of the songs suggests that either Charles or his vocalists (or both!) were seriously heartbroken at the time of writing. As for the production, well it doesn't get much more tasty than this. He gets this wicked sparse, rich, spacey texture to all his songs, and the synths he uses sound like waterfalls in another galaxy; very liquid and trippy. One of all time favourites this one, really top notch music.
