Reviews
- Snagged a decent VG copy of this in a St Vincent de Paul, along with some Lionel Hampton, Ella Fitzgerald sings the Cole Porter songbook, and Bud Powell on Clef... This pressing is awesome. I used to wonder why so many people would spend so much money on original pressings from the 50s (especially something like this which is probably never been out of print for 50 plus years) but when I spin this I know WHY they do... It really is kind of a "wham" recording, even though it's mono it feels like there's a sound stage there, I have a '70s pressing, a recent red vinyl reissue, I have a factory '80s cassette, I have two or three different CD versions, and I'm telling you this thing really just pops, even with the wear and light surface noise. I'd probably sell a kidney to get a first pressing of "Saxophone Colossus" now, if all the early Prestige vinyl sounds as good.
