Just listened to it for the first time a few days ago. Since then I've played it 4-5 more times. I've been discovering a lot of Donald Byrd's music lately. A month ago I didn't even know who he was. If you like this album, and everyone should, there’s a very rare and obscure 1967 album by Philip Cohran And The Artistic Heritage Ensemble on Zulu Records 0004 that you also might enjoy. Start with side B if you can. You can find it on youtube.

Excellent album! Some real driving tracks on this 1964 release. If you appreciate the vocals on this album, check out Freddie Roach's- All that's Good (1965). It's definitely not as polished or technical, but its still a satisfying album. I wonder if Byrd inspired Roach's his work... If anyone knows of any other albums similar to these please let us know!

The label on side A of this record has come unglued on my copy, and to my surprise, underneath it, is the Blue Note label for Blue Mitchell - The Thing to Do. Has anyone else encountered this??? Pretty cool to find, now I need to listen to the record again and determine which it is!! it seems it must have been mislabeled and they slapped the Byrd label over the Mitchell label.
