Stefan Gubatz – Distanz

This is one truly amazing album!! The sounds on this album come straight from the deepest, least explored parts of the ocean - check track no 3 Villa Nicht, what a track! This album is fresh and original sounding and don't expect to hear the usual Dub Techno sounds and atmospheres as they just aren't there. This has a totally original out there & abstract sound to it! Brilliant album and I hope there will be a second album from Stefan Gubatz?!

After a few solid releases under his Sanomat moniker and a couple of outings on Telrae imprint, Stefan Gubatz comes through with his first full lenght production, on said Cologne based label. Eight lenghty, drawned out and highly complex excursions into stripped down and moody electronica, filled with eloquent atmospheres, slightly industrial and abrassive tendencies, a beat that at times goes astray well into abstract territory, swaths of menacing and grinning bass and a plethora of various effects and sounds make for inspiring and an engagind composition. Every track here is meticously constructed with high attention to details and a sense of purpose thats compelling and admirable.
However, I wasn't sold on the first listen as it came off slighlty too scattered and abstract in a sense of coherence and the overall amount of sounds that cascades from the speakers, but as I continued to delve more and more into "Distanz" it all started to make sense, every little piece, like particles, started moving towards it's rightful place, providing new experiences with each approach and finally coming together to form a brilliant, intensive, radiant sonic structure. One of the best and defenitely most intruguing and engaging releases of the past year.
