    Guy Brewer has done his share of sound experimentation, he's done dipped his toes in some muddy waters as well, however, for his third release on Luke Slater's powerful Mote-Evolver imprint, he drowns the cinematic atmospheres in four subterranean thunder laden brutal club tracks. Not much for imagination capturing here, these are four, four to the floor club friendly fortified tunes, and not a freeking thing less.

    The first track is called "Razors", wrapped in razor sharp serrated distortion, and incessant militant drum rolls tenaciously marching forward, obliterating just about anything in their path. "Over", while resolutely tossing any shape form or pattern of competition overboard, composes of massive woodblocks which remorselessly wade, with its chords struggling, possessing an impressive large scale wall of impenetrable sound that made Shifted's techno output so powerful in the first place. Linear pounding monotony colored in abrasive rhythm rhythm and more rhythm. Blood on the dance floor, in the words of one M.J....

    After leaving the dance podium stained in blood, Bloodless," allows a certain - albeit moderate - dose of funk, swinging the beat and laying down a heavy guitar tinged chord that ought to hit a spot with plenty dance floors. In fact, give it a closer listen, and you'll find something similar on the Spherical Coordinates sound deployed on their Vector Projection EP released on Belgium's Token label. Glimpses of "SCFLS-05" and "SCFLS-17" are audible on this tune, which is not a detrimental comment at all, but hopefully a helpful one. Spaced out, sparse and penetrating at the same time. Peak time driving techno bomb of the finest caliber.

    Things are closed with "Trouble", a ticking, restrained minimal thumper with tremendous bass response, that had its five minutes of immense notoriety when played by Ben Klock on his Boiler Room mix (hence why this EP's prices escalated as quickly as they did). This, while not much more that a competent tool, has the potential of becoming a whole lot more if properly dropped. The sounds are prickly and stubborn, the percussion might be thriftless - no offense intended - however that's not where the fun resides here. It's all about densely layered rhythmic sections and piercing microscopic ticks drilling its way to the foreground. This one is an absolute killer on a three deck set-up, as witnessed by myself in Stattbad some time during November 2013. The overwhelming bass line commands attention like an armored police truck stomping through your project or neighborhood housing imposing imminent curfew.

    Arguably Shifted's least challenging 12" of them all, up to date, yet the most direct and useful one. This one has - pure and simple - four cuts of no holds barrel techno barrage aimed at knocking the hardest of them party crowds off their axis. With that in mind, techno purists, and especially long time followers of the grey country's techno aesthetic, should be all over this one - for a good reason too.
