Show All 28 Reviews- Only album I've ever seen where the 4 flavors of digital releases all have different color covers from each other. The background is silver on the CD, and entry for the version I have has the wrong color cover. Started comparing submitted covers for different CD editions, and the few that got the color right (un-auto-corrected by bad scanner software) have bad moire lines. Finally resorted to looking at the digital versions and each one is a different shade, none of them matching the CD cover.
Can someone please scan the silver front cover to the CD edition? I don't have a scanner or a camera, otherwise I would do it. - One of autechre’s most hard hitting album & most crazy i think. While i didnt think of it much when i first heard it, now i think it is one of the most solid album in autechre’s discography. Seems to be linked from confield to draft to this. Sheer digital madness.
- Edited 2 years agoOriginally hated it! Now 15(+)yrs later I now see it as a experimental masterpiece. A true architecture in sound, disjointed music and abstract experimental-ism that doesn't make sense yet oddly starts to make sense as if it rewires your brain on each new listen!
- Edited 4 years agoEste es el álbum que menos me gusta de Autechre :c
La única canción buena es Iera. Nada mas :/ - I just listened to the closing piece again (Sublimit) in 10 years, and I was blown away by how much tension is contained in this piece. Not aged at all, perfect !
- Edited 2 years agoA big return to form, their most accomplished effort since LP5. Building their career in the 90's Booth & Brown took hardcore beats to uncharted territories in the process, and this album is some kind of return to those roots, a joyful rhythmic fiesta!
- Quite certainly the worst Autechre LP and in my opinion the only black sheep in their fairly spotless catalog. In not sure at all what was the artistic goal with this album. Untilted seems to focus on two closely related things, rhythm and repetition glitches and leave out all else. This is evident right from the beginning as the opening track LCC lays the foundation of what's to come, surprisingly dull percussions repeated in banal sequenced with some atonal drones layered beneath. Melody is only secondary, if that.
The tracks Ipacial Section, Pro radii and Iera thankfull rectify some of these issues, in particular providing interesting percussion instruments for a change and otherwise slightly more engaging timbral palette as well. Still even these cuts that are probably the best on the album almost exclusively seem to focus on rhythmic acrobatics that frankly are some of the least interesting in Autechre's entire repertoire.
Augmatic Disport, Fernium and The Trees mostly fit into the same category, but manage to be even less absorbing for the most part. Fermium is a noteworthy exception though in the sense that it does include a melody, which is actually quite interesting, but once again the mindless repetition reinforces the humdrum quality of the album. These tracks also make painfully clear how barren the whole album is spectrally.
Sublimit closes the album in an apt manner. It's ugly, long and drawn out, quite similar to the opener actually. it concentrates all bad aspects of the album well. I fail to understand why this album is lauded so much by the fans and casual listeners alike. The mix, instrumentation, melody and writing are all significantly worse than say both the album that preceded and succeeded this one. Not recommended at all but someone else probably will anyway. - Edited 7 years agoSo I'm not a huge Autechre fan, I did like Amber and Move of Ten however I find around around 90% of their content to be unlistenable. However this isn't the case with Untilted, it may sound like a mess of beats at first but the ambiance and other content that plays quietly in the background makes it all sound orchestrated as they work in conjunction with each other. Overall its definitely worth checking out either for Autechre haters.
