I have a VG+ copy of the original press vinyl and - to be perfectly frank - I feel it underwhelms sonically. Rather narrow soundstage, limited dynamics. Compared to the CD I do not feel the current prices are worth it.

I also wonder why this record remains out of print, when the vast majority of Polly Jean's catalogue remains available on pretty decent pressings?

So, if each copy of the original print that was listed would go quickly, I could see how they would fetch ever higher prices, testing the limits for what people are willing to pay. But. Since slowly, over time, more and more copies seem to surface in various outlets, it seems perverse that the asked price keeps climbing and fewer, yet fewer copies actually sell. That is what, market logic in reverse? Most really rare records are so expensive because they are so hard - or even impossible - to find, but just like this one there are a handful of titles where this logic for some reason does not seem to apply. What does that tell you? Well.. as for me, following the set out course, I'll refuse to buy the original vinyl Stories until at least 20 copies are listed here and the asked price reaches €1.000. Go figure :D

Although the price is somewhat prohibitive, I have managed to get a copy of the original press and the sound quality is superb. If you love this LP it is worth saving up for, believe me.

i like to scroll through photos of the vinyl every now and then to make up for the fact that i will most likely never own a copy of this essential album. maybe if i hit the lotto one day or island finally puts out a repress, sigh.

Polly's most commercial album. Her best album maybe...Sound on vinyl (official) is also fantastic. Cd's sound also is very good. This means that the sound production/mixing & mastering managed by professional ears & hands. Another must - have 90's release.

I have this on vinyl, and all of the specs match, but I'm not convinced it's legit. The cover feels kind of glossy, unlike most of my other records. Anyone have a way to tell if the copy I have is a bootleg?

Yeah I did some photo comparisons between mine and the actual pressing and it's definitely a boot. Luckily, the seller offered me a full refund.

If the centre label is maroon it's a fake.

PJ Harvey, this, apparently, delicate yet powerful creature evokes a strength in all of us daring the world to go to hell if that's what you want. On this album, she's low-key, minor key and it rests a sadness over the project on the bare "This mess were in." where she and Thom Yorke does it to perfection.
We recognize the expression that we have come to know as Polly Jean's where she with small means, whispers and sometimes intimate monologues enthrall the listener. The songs that stand out and show her rock vein are the short but intense "Kamikaze" and the drawling progressive "This is love."
Her popularity in the alternative circuits makes her vinyl releases can be both difficult and costly to get your dirty hands on, unless you have contacts in the creddy crowd.
