It’s a nice feeling, as the winter slowly morphs into spring; the sun renders the world in a brighter, sharper light, the days feel warmer and the smiles on the faces of the populace seem more common all of a sudden. You reach the end of the day and you feel well-worked and sleepy, which is where this record fits in.

The sounds found here are a product from the mind of Wayne Gardiner - who many people describe as a prolific, with a rather impressive list of production credits to his name; stretching from records on the legendary Peacefrog to the relentless Strictly RhythmSix releases deep into his discography, this 12″ was released in 1992 following a run of records for the aforementioned Strictly Rhythm, Right Area and a couple for Nervous under different aliases. While his previous two for the latter situate themselves in garage-house realms, there’s a breezier, deeper mood to be found within the grooves here.

The thread running through all of these tracks is the wonderful pad. Beautifully mellow and open, it creates a great canvas on which the rest of the tracks can unfurl. Up top on the A, the From The Deep Mix is peppered with neon lit keys and a flowing piano line. For such a title the Ambient Mix is somewhat of a contradiction; a jazzy interplay of the sleepy bassline, keys and piano dominate the mix.

Once you flip over to the B you’ll find that the breezy feel is pervasive throughout the record; the Love Ride Mix revolves around a smooth ride and skippy hi-hats offering a slightly more upbeat vibe. The After Hours Mix is a track for two lovers on an empty dancefloor, the cool pad weaving itself in and around the sparse drum and synth work; while the Love Ride Mix can feel slightly hectic at times we find the opposite in the mellow moods of the B2.

This is music for the hours after the club, before the day break; the light is slowly filling the sky but the sun’s not there yet. Absorbing the sounds of this record is much akin to that change of season; it’s a breath of fresh air. For a record released in 1992, it really hasn’t aged at all.

This is one heck of an amazing deep house release by Mr. Wayne Gardiner. Deep, smooth, soothing tracks with occasional pads and even vocal samplers thrown in for good measure. House Music Paradise!
