Show All 11 Reviews- Edited 9 months agoIn part I bought this double lp based on the fact they did (if memory serves) a 0:38 version of Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love... I mean really, if you could boil down 80's hard rock in a nutshell (mid stream a-la 1984) this concisely...then I had to know. The whole record didn't disappoint even for a second. I feel truly lucky to have "come of age" at this time. Minutemen were and are an inspiration to me.
On a vinyl note, the fact that my copy was pressed somewhat askew on one side (it became noticeable at the end of that side by being a bit "pitch shifty") really made me cherish my copy more. It was a bit more personal. Vive D. Boone. - The 'Trout Mask Replica' of the eighties.
Also love the obvious reference to Kraftwerk's Autobahn back sleeve. - is there any way to tell an original press from a reissue if it's sealed? i have an early sealed pressing, but am struggling to determine if it's a true first press.....any help?
- Their absolute masterpiece! I was only 8 in the summer of 1984, so I was too young to actually feel SST's high flying summer, but I discovered it ten years after. And is still one of my favourite punkrock albums.
- Perhaps their most well-known song is titled "History Lesson - Part II" on the LP label and CD cover, "History Lesson (Part II)" on the rear LP cover, and "History Lesson - Part Two" on the live Ballot Result LP. (sigh)
- This was released in July 1984, not October. The magic SST summer of this, Zen Arcade and Meat Puppets II.
