I bought Tilt back in 2008 as a reward for finishing university. I hadn't heard a note from it but it had this reputation of being some kind of extreme impenetrable art project.

So to make it an event, I turned out the lights, plugged in my headphones and played it as loud as I could bear, something I rarely do. But what an experience! I really was blown away by the sound design. However I was much more surprised to discover how conventional it is. There are songs. There are hooks. It's not really an avant garde record at all. It's just not pop. After the initial shock of the first 3 songs, the album gradually becomes more straight-foward. I think it's fair to argue that Walker's last three albums work best when given your full concentration.

A few years later repeated the same darkened room-headphones trick with The Drift and Bish Bosch, but I didn't get the same rush. Tilt prepared me too well it seems.

The first song from this album says it all... a beatiful back ground with no key in their compositions... and there is he who is beyond any key... but to be sure he is controlling all and sure he has composed all the tracks... a true genius...
