Reviews
- The album that broke up Henry Cow, see p.362 of the 2022 Piekut biography. Of necessity given time constraints and expertise, Cutler and Frith dominated the creation of these studio-built short songs. 3 weeks later Hodgkinson et al decided the material wasn't up to Henry Cow standards with the exception of his “Viva Pa Ubu” and Cooper's “Half the Sky” which then were held out for inclusion on the future Western Civilization album.
Hodgkinson agreed to releasing the material, just not as Henry Cow. He didn't think thru the fact that his songs “Terrain,” “The Tube,” “The Dance,” or “Piers” might instead be released as Art Bears songs and though he'd agreed, came to feel betrayed. Similarly, Georgie Born was unhappy to see her original bass lines on "Joan” and “In Two Minds,” credited as a Frith compositions and sleighted not to be invited to join Art Bears. Neither was Lindsay Cooper brought into Art Bears or given credit for composing “The Dividing Line”. Simultaneously, Chris Cutler launches the ReR label and Rec Rec distro.
