- Kreator’s best album from the early years
When main-man Mille Petrozza and drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil released Kreator’s first album in 1985 (along with their original bassist Rob Fioretti), Mille was only 17 years-old. EXTREME AGGRESSION came out four years later in 1989 after three full-lengths and a couple EPs. It was their first release on a major label (Epic) and their best album yet IMHO. It’s reminiscent of Bathory’s output in 1987-1988, particularly the vocals, just more note-dense and speedier.
While it’s dynamic and aggressive late 80’s thrash, it’s not boringly one-dimensional like, say, Agony’s THE FIRST DEFIANCE from the previous year. Mille & Co. wisely add interesting bits to even the thrashiest, most primal songs. A good example is the creative groove mid-section of “Betrayer” and corresponding lead solo.
My favorite track is probably the fifth one, “Some Pain Will Last,” precisely because it strays from the same-old, same-old. It also happens to be the longest track by far, running 5:35. It showed that Kreator was more than just mindless 80’s thrash.
The nine tracks clock-in at just over 37 minutes and so doesn’t overstay its welcome.
GRADE: B+/A- - écouté 1000 fois au moins donc forcément plus aussi efficace , mais ça fait toujours quelque chose de re-entendre de temps a autre ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝟖,𝟓/𝟏𝟎
- Edited 3 years agoI got a version with black center labels and white letters (instead of red). This is the only difference to this version. Anyone knows if this needs a new entry here?
- Edited 4 years ago(Nope, I'm not referencing that edition but the master instead) Can anyone tell the proper information on the title of the SONG title (not an ALBUM title) "Extreme AggressionS"? So the song is with "S" everywhere in this album including fresh remasters. And also on artwork of compilations "Scenarios of Violence" (1996) and "Past Life Trauma" (2000). Discogs track lists without "S" on those compilations. If this is the intital misspelling (I think I heard something like that from one of Mille's interview but not really sure) - then shouldn't it be fixed on all the versions of this album as well? On later compilations and live albums the "S" is deleted from artworks from what I see.
- Has anybody ever figured out who 'The Kermits' were? I have never been able to find a reference to them or the song anywhere other than on these liner notes.
- Does anyone know why this album would have a yellow back instead of a red back. it's on Inner Sanctum.
- I think I have this German version, but without the barcode on the backside. What kind of version is that?
