Edited 7 months agoIf you are buying this version for the Surround sound, be warned!
These 6-channel surround sound mixes (6-ch without the .1) are lacking the bass output, so you actually only get to hear very little or no bass from Roger Glover's guitar.
Shame.
The original 1972 UK Quadraphonic mixes are superior to these mixes in terms of clear sound separation (albeit only 4 channels) but best of all is that you actually get to hear Roger's bass guitar and watch your wineglasses tremble from its wonderful resonance.- I've had every release of this album from the original vinyl, 8 track, cassette, CD. With this new SACD, I purchased in 2022, I'm impressed with the sound quality and mixing and I'm hearing things I never did before. This was one of the first albums I bought as a kid in the early 70's and wore out speakers both at home and in my car[s] through the years. Being able to play it in 5.1 on my main system or 2.0 on my secondary system or in my vehicle is a bonus.
- WPCR-14166 is a fine SACD reissue. Compared to other renditions of Machine Head, it is the brightest I ever heard. Turning off loudness and or dialing back treble makes for an enjoyable listening experience.
