- On "Dusty Cabinets" clearly a sample of "Can't believe" (1982) by Nancy Martin (a.k.a Nancy Martinez) is used throughout the song.
- Edited 2 years agoSadly the discogs seller community voted a merge of all releases, so, the original release plus following reissues are now 'as one'. If as well as diggin' Theo (of course) you are a historian, the way to tell (which should have been added into the reissue release page & therefore merge avoided) is that the reissues have a digitally reproduced label. Y'all can see those little dots... Personally I am all for 1st presses & original releases gaining their value if deserved, as this 12" truly deserves. There's a difference between 1998 & 2014... And no way the two releases were identical, just a bunch of people without both copies in hand to compare, no doubt.
- i can remember reading in an interview with theo a loooong time ago that he came to this riddim by accident with his drumcomputer/mpc? I tried to find it again but couldn't maybe someone knows the correct name of the interview
- Edited 4 years agoOne element I really love about Dusty Cabinets is that the track really does sound like an old creaky dusty cabinet being used as an instrument of funk! Very unusual when it came out and still really nothing like it, one of Theo's best.
- You can compare Theo only to Theo and it is given, that there is no bad joint from Theo around. Plus this is one of his better efforts. So whoever dislikes this, should really look for more commercial music.
BEWARE! Your temporary life companion may dislike this. - Photocopied centre labels on the repress unfortunately. Looks a bit shady and cheap. Quality pressing and music though.
- Edited 17 years agoStrange that no one mentions the Ebonics track here. This track is a stunning low deep groove masterpiece, simple rhythmics elements added with style, wonderfully grooving hi-hats, a superb chord pad that drives this 12 minutes piece all along with the ever deep knocking huge kick. Wonderful deep house indeed.
