Reviews
- Edited 4 months agoThis EP encapsulates the two sides of myself. The first one, techno, industrial, grungy, dusty, like the two first pieces of this creation, and the second one, calm, pensive, nature-friendly, melancholic, like the 5 other tracks. It's rare enough to be noticed, and I enjoy that. But if I'm writing a review right now, it's for the sake of two tracks : "Creek Of The Dead", and especially the eponym track "On Frozen Fields". They are absolutely perfect... The lo-fi sound design, the subtle melody, the repetitiv perfeclty chosen notes... they are like your best memories locked in a glass bottle. Also, the fact that Ulf Lohmann is just an enigmatic deer on discogs also adds something magical to his works. In our era of over-communication, it's just a great breath of fresh air to still reflects silence and mystery. Eternal and absolute love for "On Frozen Fields", which is one of the most poignant ambient tracks I've had the chance to hear.
- Edited 11 years agoOne of the most delicate and beautiful B sides ever pressed to vinyl.
Each track unfolds with melancholy and longing. The tonal palette is airy and orchestral, with dreamy like reverbs.
The A side consist of two minimal tracks with hints of mysterious grime.
When I listen to this artist, it is his ambient work that I am seeking out. - Edited 17 years agoa very schizophrenic yet balanced release from Ulf Lohmann :
A side unfolds two rasping & nasty groovy tracks (A2 being cut around a tremendous telluric bassline)
B side delivers six hazy atmospheric soundscapes, sorts of crystal & gas compositions. May sound boring the first time you listen, but it gets more & more penetrating and enchanting after a while. Give this a go, you won't come back the same !
