The most important American rocker of the 1970s and 1980s with the passage of years ever deeper into inward-looking. The introverted The Ghost Of Tom Joad (1995) was the last sign of life from the man who once with epic albums like Born To Run (1974) and Born In The USA (1985) so aptly the American life feeling managed to articulate. The attacks of 11 september 2001 have Bruce Springsteen wake-up call. Most of the song material on The Rising concerns on this shocking event and the identity crisis, where American society since then. He remains in his lyrics again close to itself but there is a sense from that in many lives, a talent that only the great songwriters. Springsteen has, after years of absence, his legendary E-Street band popped up to his words is optimal. The result is a powerful, convincing plate that the comparison with aforementioned masterpieces can endure. (MS)
