An abiding mystery - "Free" has a vibraphone, perhaps not easily distinguished from Fender Rhodes in the track, but essential to the sensuous vibe of the tune (apologize for the pun.) That said, i've searched all over for a clear indication of who the vibes player on the record was. Freddie White is listed for drums & percussion, tho haven't unearthed evidence that vibes was among his percussion skills. Victor Feldman played vibes on the next DW LP, "Song Bird" tho isn't associated with her epic hit single. Sure, it could have been either co-producer, Maurice White or Charles Stepney, but odd that it isn't called out.

"If You Dont Believe" is such a nice tune... I used for a while to play it along as my personal soundtrack to fall asleep...

A really strong 70s funk soul album.. most of all, because of the arrangements and the musicians involved (the both White Brothers of Earth, Wind & Fire). But, at the other side, I have to say, it could be an album with a really strong A side ( "Slip Away", "Cause You Love Me Baby", "Free", "If You Don't Believe") and a bit loosy and not-that-good B side (the rest of the songs). A couple of very memorable and awesome songs in an unique moment and record in the career of a very good soul singer, anyway!..
