Reviews
- Playful, lively, funky, colorful, sunny, cheeky.
Emotional, evocative, elaborate, with so much to give.
Covers a multitude of moods, spans through a respectable variety of styles, touches on a lot of things electronic music related, aims at the forward thinking end of the market through cleverly paying respect to the originators.
It's celebrative, vocal, smooth, rough, instrumental, improvisational, spontaneous, diverse and then highly focused a minute later.
Loaded with highlights for a myriad of blissful reasons. Sampling isn't quite original, but it's properly done. The samples tend to tag along with the swing of the track, only emphasizing the influences his own music drew upon. A very, very nice surprise was the inclusion of Donny Hathaway's "Little Ghetto Boy", already immortalized on a slew of hip-hop records throughout the nineties.
What a satisfactory listening session this was. A whole bunch of sway, gravy, juice and properly executed groove. Heavy nods to Detroit, yet the with soulful authenticity and individual touches brought by the always highly creative Orlando Voorn.
Top drawer stuff. - At first I thought "Yeah, right. A perfect 5 review... must have been a bunch of hardcore fans voting."
But this release is in fact divine.
If the second wave of Detroit techno is your thing, then go get this record. The tracks oscillate somewhere between Carl Craig's bass driven house-ish tunes, Drexcyia's futuristic synths, with a hint of Mo Town Soul, and diffuse but nevertheless heavy bass drums. Yet, they still got Voorn written all over them.
I had like five favourite tracks after the first time I ever listened to that album. So: thumbs up. Highly recommended.
