- A bone cruncher of an album, quite simply one of the greatest reggae albums of all time. This propelled Johnny into the big leagues and helped usher in the dancehall era, 1979. Lost how many times this has had and still do, have rotations on my turntable. The tunes and message are timeless. You draw these tunes in a dance, they still rip it apart. Highly recommended.
- Can anyone tell me which release has the yellow outline and large red '1' on the centre as shown in the pictures above? Seems to be a lot of different presses and I picked one up recently just trying to figure out what I have. Thanks
- one of the best roots albums ever!
he is such an amazing vocalist, very likable even if you are not into reggae - Edited 17 years agoA devastating reggae LP, full of depth, soul, joy and love. Johnny's vocals are consistently arresting and convincing, although the backing band and vocalists also do a great job. Jah Promise is a standout, with the "I aint gonna break my promise" refrain, and infectious shuffled rhythm. We Need Love is probably the best song, for its lyrics if anything, but don't miss the awesome organ solo. I don't think I can find adequate words, otherwise. This is simply very highly recommended to ALL music lovers, whether you have an interest in reggae or not.
