LOVE this record at proper speed like this. If they could marry this w/ AAA sound, it would be a perfect beast. That said, there's nothing wrong here - flat record, no surface noise, and very revealing. My UK OG just has a bit more cajones and warmth.
I just listened to all 7 of my BB pressings. I have this one, the 2013 DSD clear vinyl reissue (which they say is the same master as this), one US second pressing London and the rest are excellent conditioned OG pressings like Bestway and Monarch. This is right in the middle. It’s slightly better than the 2013 reissue. And it’s fantastic, don’t get me wrong…but after comparing them back to back I was shocked (well, not shocked) that the OG Monarch pressing was more dynamic and bombastic. And, another OG London pressing that I’m unable to identify exactly sounds slightly better than that! It was incredible. The DSD is great but these OGs in good condition just have that presence….like they are playing in the room with you. That said, don’t hesitate to pick this one up…it’s a killer pressing.
The best I've ever heard. Although i prefer AAA analogue all the way, the beggars is just perfect in this DSD version. And maybe the only DSD i can recommend by the way. This DSD release feels analogue without being processed digitally. very dynamic! It is just a good copy from a mastertape without the tweaking in protools with all the filter effects like the later reissues all have. The sleeve could have been better, it is blurry if you compare it with the Abkco 1986 vinyl reissue.
“DMM” in the deadwax, this sounds fucking awesome. Probably the best I’ve heard this album on vinyl. An original US and an original UK just doesn’t have the same clarity and punch as this one does. The acoustic guitar really shines here, and emphasizes those beautiful strings and charlie’s snare. Proves that digital can be just as good as analog! I agree with the previous reviewer, this sounds like a modern MFSL record. It’s very comparable to my 2018 MFSL copy of Breakfast in America. The only gripe I have is how flimsy the cover is, but this isn’t a special market release so I can easily look past that
This sounds fantastic. Anyone who says that digital mastering is inferior to all analogue hasn't listened to reissues like this. I'd put this on the same level as a MoFi reissue and we now know they also use DSD.
This new DsD version is simply stunning! Unbelievably crispy sound. You can pick up each instrument and note like never before. I can highly recommend getting this one.
My copy of this pressing sounds fantastic. The corrected speeds take a bit of getting used to, but on the whole I like them. The mastering is very revealing compared to an original pressing, although it does lack some bite the faster pace helps pick everything up. The completist really needs both.
