Lali Puna compiles a bunch of loose tracks and remixes into I THOUGHT I WAS OVER THAT, spreading their findings over two discs. The first disc focuses on their own tracks as well as remixes for other artists. For the Lali Puna purists, the staticky blips of "The Failure of the Leading Sign Industries" will sound like Morr Music distilled into a quick intro, and "40 Days," a Slowdive cover, replicates the shoegaze haze with more of a beat. Their cover of Human League's "Together in Electric Dreams" is much more sparse and dreamy, and their collaboration with Bomb the Bass, "Clear Cut" has a stronger clatter to better contrast Trebeljahr's whispery vocals. "Harrison Reverse" takes the a light approach, while "The Daily Match" gets slightly jauntier and "Past Machine" more angular with the guitars. Their remix of Boom Bip's "Awaiting an Accident" takes his hip-hop leanings and makes them more spry, while their mix of Two Lone Swordsmen's "It's Not the Worst I've Looked" calms the original's twanging, whereas Dntel's "(This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan" has more of a rhythm. The second disc consists primarily of remixes of their own work, as Thomas Leboeg takes a gentle, whistling stab at "Nin-Com-Pop," which contrasts later to as the Two Lone Swordsmen turn that track into a darker dive. Boom Bip makes "Micronomic" slightly quicker, with a scattered, skittering rhythm, and Dntel take a similar tack with "Faking the Books." The complex interplay of synths that To Rococo Rot brings to "Grin and Bear" makes for a melodic wash of sound, while Alias strips down "Alienation" to increase its moodiness. Flowchart chop up the vocals for a playful, child-like approach, and Sixtoo approaches "Small Things" gently, though not without some harsher tones. You won't get over this anytime soon.
