I was lucky to stumble on this LP in a local record store and picked it up out of intrigue due to the cover photo. I am so glad I did because this is a superb comp featuring just three rare funk bands from the Bay Area circa 70-76: Electric Church, Paul Tillman Smith & Plight. The first two bands receiving most of the feature space, but the quality of the songs is gritty, soulful and tremendously funky. According to the liner notes the original tapes were found in a garage decades later and were covered in mold and on the verge of disintegrating, but after tedious and very cleaning and sonic restoration what you have is this brilliant compilation. Sound quality is best on side A, but given the age and neglect the masters tapes saw, even the tracks that have lower fidelity are really not too bad. Thank you to all involved who helped make sure this fantastic music survived and saw life once again. Get a copy if you can as it is well worth it.
