Reviews
- Great prog-friendly pop-folk-rock from one of Quebec's most popular artists.
Like fellow-Quebecer Jean-Pierre Ferland, Pierre Lalonde is best known as an excellent Yé-Yé and clean-cut pop vocal crooner, .....but again, just like Ferland's brilliant "Jaune" (and it's follow-up "Soleil"), Pierre Lalonde did briefly venture into progressive pop-psych territory with this unique concept album. Released just a month after Jean-Pierre Ferland's "Soleil" hit the record store shelves near the end of 1971, Pierre Lalonde had collaborated with Quebec composer/lyricist Stephane Venne, putting down this little-known orchestral-pop-psych gem.
Trippy and artsy arrangements, long songs joined together with some strange effects and loops, an unexpected childrens' choir at one point, and even some funky folk with fuzz, this obscure LP was definately "out-of-character" for Mr. Lalonde, and unfortunately, with little airplay, it was quickly forgotten. Yet, the excellent sound recording (Andre Perry Studios) and Stephane Venne's major involvement here, make this one of the most under-estimated recordings to come out of Quebec in the 70's.
