I love EPs. While it takes time to get into (and really "learn") full length releases, EPs are the easy middle option. Unfortunately, many an EP this day is little more than a glorified single, so it's very refreshing to hear a dance EP that really delivers.
For one thing, Black And Blue enjoys stylistic variety because of the wide array of artists doing the remixes. The same track is made upliftingly synthy, nasty and crunchy, EBMishly energetic or just plain weird and glitchy - and that's just the title track. The Simple Minds cover of "Theme From Great Cities" has that wonderful fatalistic (I call it Hammer Horror or Law and Order "fingering the suspect mood") feel to it. But the standout track would have to be the track 8 "Ease The Pain", remixed by The Mercy Cage. Slightly ambient, very dancey, quite haunting, and very unique vocal treatment.
Overall, a first rate release. What an EBM EP should be like.
