A very special Dub Techno and dreamy ambient album, and one of the best examples of the whole genre..mesmerising stuff!!
Billowing clouds of foggy reverb & interstitial pulsations set adrift in Venusian atmospheres of flickering light. Some of the best work in the genre this side of Yagya, Gas, Within Reason, Marcus Guentner, etc.
The entire subgenre of electronica known as 'dub techno' is a style that like its namesake tends to exist in a somewhat hermetic world of its own design. Typical signatures make their presence well-known: rubbery skeins of bass, deep echo & sundry reverberations, expansive use of the studio as instrument to erect the kind of atmospheric conditions only found within alien soundworlds. These styles have sometimes come too easy for some, but Sraunus has an intuitive feel for sidestepping cliché while stubbornly emphasizing the finer aspects of the form. Space is the place indeed; often the various beats & pulses arrive to signify some earthier anchors. Along the way, texture is bent in nefarious ways, dimensional space is rendered blurry, and time becomes something vague & indistinct. The megadrift of "Asperatus Clouds" is primed to levitate the listener to infinitely higher realms.
