Reviews
- Edited 9 years agoI couldn't agree more with the previous comment. I first heard "Give My Dub To You" after taking a chance on a $3 mix CD in a local second hand record store. That CD was "Journeys By DJ - After Hours" mixed by Jay Chappell. Whilst the CD was full of great tracks from that 1991-95 ear of NYC house, one track stood out in particular.
"Give My Dub To You", with its lush chords & keys, chilling vocals, deep dubby bass and perfect drum programming. Pure class, but who was behind it?
DANNY TENAGLIA! Someone up until then I had categorized with that filthy f*cked up, drugged up tribal house music of the late 1990s thanks to his Global Underground 'Athens 010'. Who would have thought a house DJ and a indie-ish jazz band would make such a fine team? A shame they didn't do more together.
Despite the "Grand Ballroom" mix on side A, this it a total contrast to the "Surrender Yourself" (Ballroom Mix).
This record opened up a different side of house music to me and introduced me to the Tribal America label. - Edited 18 years agoOne of Danny Tenaglia's finest house productions. The pick of this 12-inch is "Give My Dub To You". The bassline and piano chords work beautifully together with Vanessa Daou's haunting lyrics (on continual reverb echo) captivating the listener throughout. Up tempo kickdrum beats and some interesting moog-synth sound effects give the track a distinctive feel.
Wonderful stuff from one of the great icons of the underground scene. 5/5
