This is the second in a series of two. Paris, an unlikely twin for "Preston 28 February 1980". This cd is, of course, of it's time; not just late 1979 when it was recorded, as Joy Division beat up on their sound and vision to move implacably on, from "Unknown Pleasures" to "Closer", but also Spring 2001, the date of the release, reminding us, in the dog days of another culture, traumatised by synthetic rock and an increasingly aimless dance culture, reminding us what pop culture is and can be. Thank you Mr Mathers and you limp biscuit boys. But we can do it too. We can be real. And this band was more real than most of us can still cope with. Enjoy.

I was outside Wilson's Factory in Hulme, the last night of Ian's final performance. I could not go inside, but the music was playing loud and clear, even from out side! Ironically, I was also present at New Order's first gig a number of months later at a UMIST facility of man Uni. It was a very strange gig, since no one new what to expect. I was shocked to see a woman playing on keyboards, but everyone else was there: Bernard, Hooky, Steve and the female Keyboardist. Tony Wilson was wandering about gauging the audience's reaction to this "new" style of music. I have to admit, it was very different with lots of synth. It would be any years later, that I truly appreciated New Order's style of music. Suffice to say, they did good. Own virtually all JD and NO releases, including many bootlegs. I play these LPs often. They are still the greatest band for me. RIP Ian.

As revealed in the liner notes, this published Les Bains Douches gig/broadcast is incomplete, and was supplemented by recordings from Amsterdam and Einhoven January 1980 for this release.
Completists might want to seek out Death Trip, a bootleg that features two of the missing tracks. This release: Joy-Division-Death-Trip/master/138995 Though some versions are excluded from trade in the marketplace, it is up for auction every now and then, e.g. here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Joy-Division-Death-Trip-rare-color-Vinyl-LP-unofficial-12-release-Germany/402732934740
