Need some help here - I have one where the first LP is Side 1 and side 4 and the second LP is side 2 and side 3! The labels indeed match the 1/4 and 2/3 tracks as well! What version of all of the ones listed is this? It is a gatefold, red/orangeish labels, no bar code on the back, "mastered by Capitol" in the inner grooves.

today ive stumbled across a perhaps unique mispressing CD, of Kate Bush's 'The Dreaming' with this compilation as the audio instead. I'm glad I now own this set as I do enjoy The Beach Boys and I didn't have this one, but it looks like Ill have to order another copy of The Dreaming now

Had this since I was 5 with a Mickey Mouse phonograph. The mixes here of "Help Me, Ronda", "Let Him Run Wild", "Wendy", "Girl Don't Tell Me", "California Girls", "Don't Worry Baby" are sublime in a way the mono mixes on SUMMER DAYS (& SUMMER NIGHTS!!) are and are still better than anything I've heard on CD/Digital stereo and mono issues of albums, collections that have followed. It's confounding.

I did a comparison of “In My Room” from this comp and the Analog Productions 45RPM and like this one much better. I did a blind A/B with my wife and she picked this one without question.

Two LP set loaded with heaps of Beach Boy hits...Mostly these were from their early days on the music scene...Brian Wilson was beyond prolific with his massive amount of surf sounds...This compilation is them singing and the "Wrecking Crew" making the music...A winning combo for Capitol Records for decades...Surf's Up!

This was one of my dad's favorite cassettes when I was little. Decided on a whim to get the original pressing. After some deep cleaning, it sounds marvelous in loud spots. However there is a TON of surface noise. Not sure if it's just my copy or how it was pressed. Likely back then most people didn't have precision record players and were using suitcase ones so maybe they didn't care. As is, I would get the repress unless this has sentimental value for you as it does for me.

Not sure if mine is the Los Angeles pressing or not, but either way, this is my loudest record I own and it sounds amazing!

Endless Summer is a Beach Boys compilation, a collection of singles hits from their most prolific AM radio era, 1962 through ’65, when they were going head to head with the Beatles. The assemblage was put together by their old label Capitol, at a time when the Boys were under contract with Reprise Records.

With the album being a chart-topping success (#1 in the US and Canada, the record spent 155 weeks on the charts, being certified a three time platinum affair), the Beach Boys were left scratching their heads, as they thought this lightweight music had fallen to the wayside and out of favor as they released more progressive thoughtful and introspective albums. With the collection being released as a double album and a single extended cassette, the adventure captured twenty songs from their sophomoric years of girls, fast cars and of course surfing. The compact disc would go on to feature the only song from the Smiley Smile album, “Good Vibrations.”

With the decade of the 1970’s having almost reached its middle years when this record hit the shelves, the Beach Boys found their new material not selling well, and while there were certainly some great single songs on each album, on a whole, few fans were embracing this heady music, to the point where the Beach Boys were now almost irrelevant. Coming face to face with the success of Endless Summer, the Beach Boys for all intent and purposes became a nostalgia act in concert, where like Led Zeppelin, few in the audience could tell a good show from a bad one, fans were just happy to be dropping as many Quaaludes as Dennis Wilson, as everyone stumbled into happiness by the end of an evening.

All and all, the album’s a whole lot of fun, not a stinker to be found, though five songs per side passed rather quickly (in the neighborhood of eleven minutes a side, rather short by 1974 standards), which might have been its only drawback. I for one have always found Beach Boy compilations to be far superior to any of their individual albums, and that goes for those heady progressive albums, Smile, Pet Sounds, Sunflower, Surf’s Up, or any of those later distributions that were favored by critics, and held little for me, as I wasn’t there for high-art, I was there for fun-fun-fun.

*** The Fun Facts: The first pressings of the album containing a poster of an airplane towing a Beach Boys banner and is now highly collectable. The cover artwork (created by Keith McConnell) was filled with vegetation evoking the hippie vibe fashioned after their 1960’s album Smiley Smile.

i picked this up a few weeks ago for $7 and wow, it sounds really good. I am only a casual Beach Boys fan but this album sounds great. If you are not a Beach Boys mega fan or completist and just want the hits this should do you well.
