Notes

Displayed credits to Jaime Read and Insync vs. Mysteron do not appear on this release.

Tracks A1, A2, B2, B3, C1, C2, D1, D2, D3 were all taken without permission from a DAT cassette given to Joe Lewis in 1995 by UK artist Jaime Read. The DAT contained music made during a period when Read was recording at the studios of 10th Planet with assistance from Lee Purkis, Chris Hartley and David Manuel (the 3 of whom ran 10th Planet and recorded as Insync vs. Mysteron). 3 earlier tracks, titled on this release as "Snoopy Dancin'", "Piano" & "Netherlands", were recorded by Read at the studio of Justin David.

Read was keen to have his music released on Relief Records, a Chicago label with cult status in the underground UK scene. He gave the DAT to Joe Lewis for the purpose of giving to Relief as potential material for the label. Some time later a number of these tracks appeared on several releases credited to Joe Lewis/Louis, with no mention of the original artists involved: "Joe Lewis - Back To The Beginning" on Relief, "Joe Lewis - The Beginning And The Ending" on Target Records (US), and "Joe Lewis - Netherlands EP" on Basement 282.

10 years on, several of the tracks appeared on this album, which was released on both vinyl and Joe Lewis - The Return Of Joe Lewis, alongside a 12" entitled "Joe Lewis - He's Back". Again, no credits were given on the release to the artists responsible for the majority of the music.

The track titles shown for the tracks in question were given by Joe Lewis.

Its interesting to find some differences. The Track "Sex" on this LP must be the complete track. On the Target TR-1 its shorter and faded out. Also "Rain (Pt. 1)" & "Snoopy Dancin" are slightly longer here.

It is sad when you see that a house legend like Joe Lewis can go so low and steel other people's music, and release it as his own. When you compare the production on tracks B1 and B2 with the way the rest of the tracks were produced, you can clearly see that Joe Lewis has no capacity of programming drums the way Jamie Read does. Compare this album to Read's "The End of the Beginning" and you'll see what I'm talking about. Still, this is a great album, but it is (at least the bigger portion of it) Jamie Read's album, and he should get credit for it. Shame on you Joe Lewis!

find the notes section to this release confusing - implication that this material is 'stolen'? The source of the info could do with being more evident, or some more clarification! Filled with sadness at the prospect of this album being a result of artistic theft :(

However - great album, full of stripped down simplicity - impressive drum patterns, emotion and atmosfear - 'sex' is a fantastic, deep, deep track. Well done to who ever did put this material down initially.
