'Apex Break' is a stunning track, with a very aggravating flaw. It seems that Mr. Burnett left the click track on while recording, resulting in a rhythmic 'tick' which pervades the entire song, often distracting from the beautiful synth work. Until I was informed of the root of this issue, I actually thought it was a bad pressing - no such luck. After I got over my initial judgement ("why the hell would they release this with such an obvious defect?"), I realised this was probably a one hit recording, which means that we'll have to take this for what it is - a timeless L.I.E.S. classic, marred by simple forgetfulness. I'm guessing that mistake won't be made again.

Edit: It turns out that it wasn't just a one-hit deal, and that Mr. Burnett has contemplated releasing a "tick-free" digital version. My question is, why release a flawed version at all? Why not just do it right the first time?

It's hard to keep up with all the LIES releases (if you still want to eat!) but of the recent batch of releases this has been my favourite (along with bookworms last one). Both sides very different and both are blinding.

UK copies of this certainly didn't hang around.
