- Edited 15 years agoWith torch holders such as Human League, The B-52’s, Gary Numan and Telex Thomas Troelsen and the rest of the Superheroes posse are on a mission to bring back the pastiche sound that emanated the 80ties pop scene. Such project could easily have crashed and burned hadn’t it been for Thomas’ bullet proof ears for catchy choruses and a firm understanding of what made the 80ties pop hits so distinct. One can only regret that SH never reached the audience they had potential to reach even if Beck is said to be a great admirer of Superheroes. And now it’s too late ...
Luckily we have their albums and among these their self-titled 3rd album is perhaps the finest example. From the heartbreaking opening pop ballad Someone Else Superheroes sounds like a lost gem you just never caught onto 20 years ago. With Turn Me On the most outrageous rocker everything works and the amount of radio hits is almost ridiculous. Someone Else, Wasting Time, Rich And Famous, Cool Girl, Come On, and the FYC She Drives Me Crazy sounding Do You Wanna Dance. If the 80ties drove you into pop music Superheroes will bring a smile on your face and perhaps a tear or two in your eyes. Why did it vanish so fully?
Highly recommended for all lovers of lasting pop music bordering essential for synth pop followers.
