It goes without saying that the driving force behind this notably influential krautrock adventure is Stereolab’s own Tim Gane, where he wanders into your home through the electrical outlets of your walls, the toaster, and a variety of other household appliances to intently shimmer, creating a hight profile high octane headlong translucent voyeuristic dive into the air right in front of you, buzzing your listening space with a dystopian futuristic vision that comes at you headlong, taking no prisoners.

Nearly everything on the record sounds clear, yet in a muted and mixed manner where a sonic whole rises out of these conceptual pieces as mildly expressive experimental noise, though with a seeming steady formal direction and purpose that will venture you down many side streets. Having said that, there are no real structures to these songs, they merely loop themselves into reality, building on themselves relentlessly before evaporating into the ether, where at the end of the first track I could only smile thinking, “Here comes another one.” Now, having said that yet again, all of the tracks are entirely different, though all are volatile in their way, an effect I can only describe as peaking through someone’s underwear draw, filled with colours textures and fringy bits around the edges, where one intently fears the immediacy of an impending discovery.

Without a doubt, and I realize that this is an odd expression, but the record comes with a bewildering sense of dysphoria, nearly sinister at times, filtering over your mind though not settling within it, not so much engaging the listener, but rather encouraging them to imagine, where at the end of this magical mystery experience I felt rather restless, as if my patience had been tested, with a slight sense of annoyance, as the soundscapes created here were rather stark, bleak and unwelcoming … yet so is the state of the world today.
