Superb female voices (with Mrs Herb Alpert, i.e., Lani Hall) singing in English and Portuguese over a nifty bossa nova rhythm/vocal section and Mendes' distinctly jazz-oriented piano, performing tight infectious arrangements of carefully chosen tunes from Brazil, the U.S., and the U.K.
9 superb tracks with several highlights including the fine English take of Vera Cruz ("Empty Faces"), the great bossa-tinged Otis Redding cover of "Dock Of The Bay", and the standout trippy-psychedelic title track "Crystal Illusions"
