Reviews
- House Of Pain's swansong was a quite overlooked gem for its time. Dogged by excessive touring and drinking, Everlast quit the band when this album dropped and it paints a very accurate picture of his disillusion with fortune and fame at the time (he was 27 on this albums, as he quotes on one song he was "5 years from 30" on one of the tracks) gone are latent Irish brandings and rowdy Muggs inspired beats for a more laidback subdued experience with some of DJ lethal's best beats to date, as he brings a similar vibe to Temples of Boom's style although his beats are more ambient sounding on this release. Everlast cuts the best verses of his tenure of HOP, showing he could hold his own against any at the time. Also as an addition along for the trip is well-known hip hop eccentric Divine Styler who on this album delivers a more scientific/5 percenter style to his raps, and associate Cokni O Dire who make up a remainder of the album replacing Danny Boy (who only drops two contributions alone to this album) on some of the tracks singles at the time.
On guest spots, there is also two present one being Sadat X who compliments Everlast's disillusion of rap fame on "heart full of sorrow" with his own knowledge of the subject and on the remix, Gangstarr's GURU drops in to do a few verses.
In short, it's a good album. a drastic drop off from the last two albums but after a few listen it may do the trick for you.
