- Edited 6 months agoHeard John Peel play Prologue during one of his shows during the week and then Annie Nightingale dropped Dream Sequence on her very late session at the weekend (this was back when Radio One was actually decent). They really made a massive impression and I knew I had to track them down ASAP. Anyway, I didn't know they were on the same release and could only remember Peely giving out the title of Prologue until by chance I found the promo in a London Record & Tape Exchange a few weeks later. Playing it when I got back home late that evening I absolutely lost my shit with joy. I lived in a basement flat and the guy above me - who was actually a mate at the time and who helped me secure the place - also lost his shit with the volume I was playing it at...!!!!
In fact, he was a R&B/Soul/Commercial House DJ and couldnt stand the rave stuff espcially Techno - getting me that flat probably wasnt his best decision,...and to my credit I did warn him....LOL!!! - For a long while I thought that Heaven & Hell was my favourite track that these guys put out in 1991. And yes, it certainly is a contender. After all, they're all similarly produced tracks, textures, arrangements and timbres. Prologue is no slouch either. But I have decided that Dream Sequence drops way harder and way deeper, with a much more fluid immersing, and complete sound for me. It's also, probably the darkest of the four tracks on these two Shut Up And Dance Records releases too.
P.S. I agree with Bunkz. At least four out of five tracks over both releases are fundamentally out and out Techno tracks. - Well said Bunkz... this 12 is a regular on the platters!
Hardcore that is as fresh today as when i first heard in back in 1991 - Edited 19 years agoThe only white guys to release toonz on this label that is dominated by black artists.
The two geezers are giving you a good hard 12" full of analogue noise.
Hard 909 drum beats and lots of vintage synth sounds to make you trip.
Don't expect the trademark Breakbeat sound of the SUAD label, but hard, straight in ya face pounding Techno beats.
PJ and Smiley did a good job by releasing this debut of Codine.
Essential twelve!
