Clearly if you like I was mesmerized by the "new age" movements music in the 1980s this should have been on your list of must owns. In its heyday new age music was simply an alternative to rock, new wave and other sundrie FM staples with a focus on in-ward reflection over popular-ism and shallow music click-isms. Tho prevalent you can hear Genest's influence which is Kitaro(who at the time was just gaining recognition in the US) and its relevant in the sounds he utilizes however he is still able to carve out his own persona in the melodies and overall feel of the music which is layman terms is sort of light and mystic. I enjoyed the fact he uses a very minimal amount of instrumentation i.e. maybe three synthesizers to get his message across to you the listener.
The music found on CF is subtle & warm with synthetic chimes and alot of heart in its execution. You can the hear meloncholia in the melodies but there are also moments of sun breaking thru the clouds offering a melodic optimism.
Its a damn shame this release has been canned by whomever owns the rights with no re-release on the horizon(I have spoken to Genest and its a legality I wish were otherwise).
Crystal Fantasy may not be a genre busting release but definitely holds the mystic water in the history of new age musics pond. Recommended!
