This double album was recorded during five concerts which Jean Michel Jarre presented in Peking and Shanghai. The concerts were the first performances of rock or contemporary music ever given in the People's Republic of China.

Jean-Michel Jarre wrote several new compositions for this historic occasion, including "Night in Shanghai", "Laser Harp", "Arpegiator", "Orient Express", "Souvenir of China" and "Fishing Junks at Sunset", which was performed and recorded with the Peking Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra.

Recorded in Peking and Shangai in October 1981 on Flight Mobile with the Saje console.
Mixed on MCI Equipment.
Originally Released on Dreyfus Records, Paris ©℗ 1982.

The inner sleeves incorrectly list "Laser Harp" as the closing track of side 2 instead of side 3.

This is an excellent pressing. Dead quiet and fantastic sound stage. I paid 5 Euro for my copy in near mint condition. Very audiophile sounding. [ Playing this using an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge ]
    • While one can debate which parts of "The Concerts in China" were recorded live and which in the studio, the fact remains that this is a splendid collection of highlights from "Equinoxe" and "Magnetic Fields", nicely complemented by several new additions.
This LP release is for the most part dead quiet with almost no surface noise - only the second half of "Equinoxe VII" suffers a bit from inner groove distortion.
Quite impressive, considering this LP is rather "lightweight" compared to all those supposedly audiophile-quality 180g/200g reissues these days.

I picked this up used for a mere 6 EUR, quite a bargain.
