Reviews
- I played this a lot back in 1999. It would be unfair to expect it to stand up 25 years later, were it not for the fact that !k7 are still releasing editions of it, and evidently many people still think it’s the greatest thing ever released.
How does it stand up in 2025? Not well. All of the tracks are granted the trademark late-’90s K+D sound: a lot of vibrato-heavy Fender Rhodes-style sustained chords and a lot of brushed percussion samples. After 21 tracks one has certainly had enough of this sound being used to make artists as dissimilar as Depeche Mode and Alex Reece (remember him?) sound the same.
The compilation isn't exactly "mixed" – there’s no beatmatching, but each track slightly overlaps with those on either side. What was the point of that, other than to render each track slightly incomplete? The worst part is DM’s Useless, which is completely missing the excellent final bossa nova section, and is chopped from 9:10 to 6:13.
The photography has also dated appallingly. Sub-Juergen Teller/Everything But The Girl-circa-1996 hipster pap. - Beautiful melodic chilled out jazz vibes, spicy percussion with melancholy organs which have a warmth that makes you smile.
- I Love K&D! Und diese CD ist einfach nur ein Meisterwerk!
Wem diese Musik nicht gefällt, hat einfach keinen Sinn für gute Musik, und sollte besser zu Volksmusik wechseln. So einfach ist das! - A really bad quality of production !!
On two sides (D and J) are continuous crackling in some parts. (Especially D1)
All these background noises are not on CD or download files!
Meanwhile I got a third Album (2022 version - sealed) with the same phenomenon !!!
!K7 is not interested to solve the problem.
All conversations with !K7 ended in emptiness !!!! - I have both the original 1998 CD and the 5LP pressing. Listening to the Depeche Mode track it appears that the L&R channels are swapped around between the CD & the LP. Don't notice it on any other track. Anyone hear the same and know which is correct?
- my version got a white logo on the digipak cover and a poster inside. however, cd 2 is missing track 6 by Sin... i can't find this version here, anybody could help me about this issue?
- Edited 5 years agoIf you listen to it as if it were music you are bored after 20 seconds each track.
- Edited 4 years agoThere is no reason to discuss, no reason to doubt or ponder. If you want the finest chill at the epitome of the chill-out albums or compilation, this is IT...
This is K&D´s finest gift to mankind. It is absolutely immortal from start to finish. You will NOT find any perfection from start to end anywhere else.
The ULTIMATE chill-out album of all time...
Just listen to the originals, and you will understand how much the tracks was redone
