Apparently, and due to discrepancies between Bonamassa, who wanted to focus on his solo rising career and Hughes, who wanted to make Black Country Communion more prominent within his musical adventures, "Afterglow" was going to be the the third and final BCC album.
And that would have been a shame, as this is nothing short of a great rock album that followed the trails of its two predecessors and, despite of not offering any immortal hymn, it provides a further set of strong kick ass songs and, at some points, could be the strongest effort by the Communion.
I really enjoy "Afterglow", as I feel it contains some of the best, more song- focused, material ever written by the guys.
Songs like "Confessor", "Big Train" (definitely, Bonamassa has a thing going on for trains!), the Bonamassa- Hughes vocal duet in "Cry Freedom", "The Circle" or "The Giver".
Also, I really like the fact that for the first time I feel Sherinian is given more space within the songs and a more upfront place in the mix, and his keyboards give the whole thing a distinctive flavour.
All in all, "just" a solid rock album performed by masters of their craft.
