Reviews
- The fact that this has not been released on LP is one of the greatest tragedies of all time. Why anyone would create such great music with the intent of releasing it strictly to CD is a great mystery and a tragedy.
- Edited 8 years agoHell is eternal repetition, the glimpse of an impossible relief yet the open possibility to achieve it without reward.
This is not metaphysics or theology, this is just plain physical reality, the existence of hell in a more reality equivalent level, that of the mind, or the soul as Spinoza envisioned, the union of body and mind is the soul, in there there are different dimensions where we inhabit, sometimes unaware. Hell is here, as much as heaven, and limbo is everywhere.
This digression is merely a signal to point where this specific work goes into. Hell, a primordial one envisioned by the premise of the torment of repetition. This is not a work to take on happy dosage, or jump into unadvertedly, the power of the music is dangerous, hellish, once again, it may open the gates to it. Music is much more than mere sounds folks and it has consequence.
Why "Benevolence"? if this is such a poisonous misty walk? in where you can find such strange and sometimes frightening visions? Perhaps it is because you find the Hell niche brought by the music dimension and yet coming out undone and unharmed, at least partially.
It is hard for me to tell if this is the best album from DN, but quite frankly i think it surely deserves a place in the most obscure discography of the dark ambient genre. One must have a very precise and concise interrelation with his own soul hell in order to create something like this. This trascends the mere experimentation of sounds, goes somewhere beyond thus creating true organic atmosphere, that is something you practically feel and when is felt it transports into ideas. And yes, the place it goes is dark, very dark.
I dare anyone testing this and entering the portal it does open for the daring. Enter swiflty and watch your ego death.
Classy, and difficult to surpass. - I am totally shocked that no one has reviewed this album before! Its been a personal favorite of mine for years. I don't imagine this was ever meant to be mixed with other types of music, but it transcends music genres a lot better than a lot of other "so-called" dark ambient albums and mixes extremely well. I think what works the most is that it manages the dark ambient tag without veering into neofolk / martial cliches. Not every song is 100%, but the other songs totally make up for it. This album is now a classic in my books.
