Reviews
- Nothing less that superb. A full set of all the UK singles released by The Jam during their lifetime.
There are too many highlights to list here but any one who considers themselves a fan of the music that echoed from the radios of the late 70s - early 80s who doesn't own this is deficient.
Like Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Jam showed what power a trio could produce. After Punks fist flourishes Paul Weller turned increasingly to the influence of the Immediate records he loved so much and the band evolved, with later singles featuring keyboards (Town Called Malice), acoustic guitar (That's Entertainment), strings (Bitterest Pill) and brass (Absolute Beginners). By the time of Five O'clock Hero the sound had changed with Precious introducing a funky edge. The seeds of The Style Council and Wellers wilderness years had been sown. If he had taken Foxton and Butler with him....well who knows.
For now experience the blossoming of a song writer becoming increasingly confident and emerge fully grown from the Punk movement. Essential.
