This is regarding variant 2: Matrix / Runout (Side A runout etched, variant 2): 5300221-A-RE-1 WG ⓤ

My copy needed a replacement due to excessive surface noise and warping. Once I replaced it, the copy I got is mint. I have no other copies to compare to, but it's quiet, with great imaging and no defects.

Can confirm there is an off-center label. I think it's a little pretentious to rate this from the lens of an audiophile, however. You know precisely what you're getting for the price. A nice place holder until you can gather enough bones to afford a nicer pressing. Once you do that, I have to say you'll at least have a passable back up copy. Also, the artwork on this pressing looks fantastic. I suppose you could put this one in a frame once you get that ace pressing out of the way.

I agree that the gatefold is nice, and I also agree that this is a mediocre pressing. Lots of cracking and popping, but what's most disappointing is the quality of the sound. I own a 1984 copy and the quality of the sound is much more inferior to it. What a shame.

The gatefold on this release is very nice, high gloss and quality build! The record is nice and thick, though my copy came pressed with an off-center label on side 2. It's so bad to the point that you can see that the hole it was supposed to go into is right below where the actual spindle hole is. Full head clearance, it's pretty weird.

Other than that, great pressing. This is the kind that most department stores carry, such as Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. Usually priced accordingly.

Honestly, not a bad sounding master, but the vinyl itself if very poorly pressed and littered with many pops and clicks throughout the entire duration of the album. I don't recommend getting this.

Very pleased with my pressing. Low noise, a perfect spindle hole, and no warping. Going to wear the heck out of this copy as I consider the MoFi version.

I've wanted this on vinyl for years and finally took the plunge on this reissue, despite the reviews. It was affordable and I found it locally, so I thought maybe I could have some good luck. None whatsoever. Spindle hole is CRAZY tight. Could barely get it on and off the table. Also, it immediately skipped across most of the first track. Immediate return.

For an LP collector on a budget, which pressing of this sounds decent and can be had for under 40 bucks? In a perfect world I'd like the MOFI edition, but it's just not obtainable for me.

I have also found the spindle hole to be a bit snug. First play of this lp reveals a nice, wide soundstage littered with MANY pops and clicks. Otherwise, a really good sounding pressing.

My copy's center hole was a bit too small and nearly got stuck on my turntable. After picking at it for a little and testing the center hole on my record player it worked itself out.

I haven't played it all the way through so I am unsure if the quality of the pressing though What's Going On is beautiful album. One of the most beautiful albums, if not the most, I have ever heard.
