I don't ever go in for tributary posts when people pass away, but it fills me with a genuine sadness to hear that Susan Anway has died. Her angelic soprano defines the first tentative steps in the mighty output of the Magnetic Fields, who are - if push comes to shove - probably my favourite group of all time. Whilst I would be remiss to pretend that successive formations with Merritt fronting aren't my preference, I'll forever hear a new sadness in this terrifyingly beautiful single, released as the band's first, and, in many ways, one of their most anthemic. Thank-you, Susan.

100,000 Fireflies may be the most beautiful song you will ever hear.
