This is just goofy, charming, and laugh-out-loud funny. I really value Beck's sense of humor. Probably just being able to have that perspective helped him tolerate tough times in the early days of his career. The genius is in the delivery on this song, just super quirky-fun. Anyone who's been in a similar situation before with a friend on acid will relate. There's a grand progression from setting the scene, where Steve "...looked out on the fairground, with the spinning things spinning all around...." to when he starts the hilarious litany of what Steve'd got into that day: "Well there must've been some pizza..." Beck still get's to be funny when he gives audiences their fix of a song like "Debra," but he's such the icon and established artist now, maybe turning out comical lyrics were more of a coping mechanism from his early days. I never try to say what I think an artist I respect should do — but with society heading down scary-street, I can't help but hope he'll unleash his fine sense of humor into a song for us whenever something strikes him as funny.

Folkin' funny narrative song about a guy taking 3 hits of bad acid, tequila, wine, etc., and upchucking at an amusement park.
