- A release of two halves, both equally as good depending on your mood. Lemon D shows his versatility here and creates something memorable and different on Side A with a nice mellow number with hip hop vibes and bags of style. Side B is a classic Lemon D rollout. Classic Headz
- i like this record not so much for "this is LA", but more so for "urban style music". i remember reading a long time ago, that when Goldie spun in LA in '95, he had to rewind the intro for "this is LA" like 10 times because the crowd couldn't get over it.
- this is LA is basically Jungle G-Funk. Instead of a rapper Lemond D lets the Amen break speak. on 12 like this Hip Hop melted with Jungle/dnb beatifully.
- Edited 13 years agoImmense bit of vinyl this. One side is a jazzy classic in the shape of Urban Style Music, the other a gangsta fuelled amen bust out in the form of This is L.A. My main reason for commenting? This video to the right is neither of these tunes. Go figure...
EDIT - I took the liberty of linking the right videos for this track. - This is one of the coolest things I've ever heard! The single greatest thing about this release, is the delicious old-school jungle bass. Nowadays the bass tones are always synthy, screechy messes. Rarley do you hear the pure, unmatched sound of the clasic jungle bass. It's just low and heavy. These are some of the best basslines you will ever witness, and not only do you hear them, but you feel them pulsate through your entire body.
The true Magnum Opus of Lemon D's Career is the second track, "This is LA". It starts off with some cool drums and a neat synth riff. But then, around a minute and a half into the song, the bass begins to build up... the drums begin to kick in... and then... the bass drops! your face begins to melt! the drums go insane!
yes, truley on of the greatest releases of all time. If you like this, I also recomend "METH 006: The Angels Fell" by Dillinja, which has similarly sick basslines.
