Wobble says in his autobiography that he considers this the belated follow-up to "Take Me To God" (something he didn't feel like making in the mid-nineties, despite Island's encouragement). He did not reassemble the Invaders, but "Mu" has Wobble & friends operating in a border-free, relatively poppy mode. It's not half as sharply honed and produced as the Invaders of the Heart's "Rising Above Bedlam" album (which I'm still digging, 20 years on). "Mu" is distinctly more casual and homegrown sounding. But in terms of the vibe and global reach of the album, it's more like that than the Deep Space excursions or bass mantra minimalism (also good with me). Wobble does foregrounded vocals on just a couple of songs, and while Satomi Takada is credited on just the last track, I'd swear there are female vocals sprinkled across a fair part of the album.
[I won't claim this is a thorough review, but given the variety and volume of Jah Wobble's discography, and current shortage of comments, I thought I'd try to give a general idea for this album. I'm hoping there's a Wobble album out there in the vein of 2009's fantastic "Get Carter" 7" single.]
