- There needs to be a vinyl press of "Summer (Scons on the Lawn Mix)". A truly epic hypnotic piece of music which really takes you on a sonic journey. Back that vinyl with Slide Show for maximum deepness.
- Edited 5 months agoFurther to my comments on the original release this extra 'Live' CD just seems seems to strengthen Pub's agenda as a force of greatness in electronica at present. We are somewhat without the Basic Channel fix nowadays, but Pub I feel bring their own Aural soup to the table. Fusing heart-wrenching chords, swirling sounds, aquatic trademark beats & just pure mind enveloping music.
Back to this release; again no particular favourites as they're all truly amazing. But to be informative;
The opening transmission hiss of 'In the meantime' brings us to the rolling sounds of 'Puzzle'. Sounding like a missing electronic music transmission picked up in the ionospheres of a bygone planetary age. 'Cherry Tree' is very reminiscent of FSOL's 'Glass' in some respects, repeated notes layered over a swirling chord that shed some light before we head into the darkness of 'Crawl'. This piece could overlay the journeys of an unknown amoebic lifeform. The slight acid stabs & nervy beats overlaid to suggest a slightly uncomfortable journey ahead but not too much..Then again turning more lighter for the live rework of the great 'This can't be happening'..Pure Pub & just superb. More remix magic & live work again this time with their most popular release 'Film'..they have really opened this 'classic' up i feel with emphasis on the chords this time round; you really want to hear this track travelling about, It just brings so many personal things home to you-i feel- clarity beyond belief. Same again with 'Summer (scons on the lawn mix)' ..Echoed pads & a distant pounding beat overlaid make this a truly hyponotic piece..slowing the original track down & bringing to the fore your attentions for a greater train of thought.
Other greats are 'Oilslic','Never better' ambient masterpieces.. Life affirmimg indeed my friends. it just feels like a tireless long journey within.
Put this on & do not be disturbed for 73 minutes...at least!!
This isn't just music, it's an artform for those who want to hear it..
