- Killer album. On the other side of the production, or the songs choice for it, I want to remark how good this girls can sing. You can feel their GOSPEL skills behind almost every ballad and song too. Amazing vocal harmonies and trio vocal lines complementation. One of the best.
- one of my most cherished albums of 1977. Bought this when it first came out, a mind blowing experience to hear The Emotions in such a perfect set of beautiful ballads and mid-tempo funky tracks. Gospel meets disco in a beautiful, well produced coherent album. Liner notes says; There is a quality we cannot hide; we must express it worldwide- it's Emotions. How true...
Even after all those years this album still is on my turntables often and it just grows and grows....
- Produced by Maurice White, and as such sounds like an Earth, Wind & Fire album. The exultant 'Best of My Love' is the best track here, running the same duration as the single release. Two very good numbers: 'A Feeling Is,' a 6/8 midtempo love jam, and 'How'd I Know That Love Would Slip Away,' a bass-slappers disco piece with reggae guitar. 'Key to My Heart' is a dreamy waltz with Maurice on backup vocals, 'Love's What's Happenin'' an uptempo EWF-style flute/horns backbeat rocker, 'Blessed' a cowbell stomp a la EWF, and the title cut is a flying-cymbal/slappers/clappers joint with wah-wah guitar. Only 'A Long Way to Go,' a kinda screechy electric sitar funk ballad, and 'Don't Ask Me Neighbors,' a cabasa/clave-dominated slow jam, are substandard. Dorothy Ashby guests on haro.
