- Here we are and it's 2017. This CD reminds us that once upon a time there was a time (the 1990s) when electronica in the broad sense was the cutting edge of musical exploration (noise, beats, samples and energy). Techno Animal and its mutations (Curse of the Golden Vampire, Ice), Alec Empire, Scorn, the Electric Ladyland series on Mille Plateaux label - and these guys. The tide came in but alas it went out again. The torch has been carried a long way for a long time - Coltrane and Pharaoh Sanders, Jimi of course, electronic 70's Miles, punk (70's guitar version), industrial metal (Justin Broadricks' Godflesh and later incarnations), punk (90's electronic version - is not Keith Flint in "Breathe" an avatar chanelling Johnny Lydon?). My wife walked in while I was playing Circumflex and didn't like it. She likes Lionel Ritchie and (um) Air Supply. In the final Manichean battle which will prevail? It's up to YOU!!
- worth listening to again & again until hardwired into your brain, there is enough going on in the tracks to make them replayable. I only had to listen to the first 10 seconds of track 2, in Picadilly Records to decide to buy this CD - their first non-vinyl release. 'Wherever' is the most popular track, but all of them are good. this work is comparable to other hymen / ant-zen releases - Beefcake poly contrale contra punkt, also a quality album, but is heavy and noisy just as true underground fans like it.
