Reviews
- For me: still the best album by Mr. Mingus. Compared to other contemporary jazz releases a very focused, organized and composed example of advanced music of the early Sixties. If you can afford it, make sure to catch the stereo version and - if possible - a pre-1974 copy.
- My copy is identical to a tee right down to the runout etchings, but the labels list the catalog as "AS-35" omitting the "-A" from the end (as well as on B-side, respectively). Any info on the variations on this press?
- An ambitious project that demands a lot from the listener. Labelled as "ethnic folk-dance music" there's elements of blues, flamenco and ballet. I would only really recommend this if you like your Jazz at the more Avant-Garde end of the spectrum.
